Oatland Island Wildlife Center: Critters Galore

Wolves, owls, bobcats, flying squirrels, and alligators are some of the critters you can get up close and personal with at the Oatland Island Wildlife Center. It’s a great place to spend a couple of hours on a self-guided tour, where you can stroll around at your leisure and look at the animals. Be sure to show up at feeding time to ensure that certain animals will be on view, as they may be hidden otherwise. Check out special programs like the weekly Toddler Tuesdays where parents and kids can enjoy fun activities at the park. Admission is a bargain at $5 for adults and $3 for military personnel. Open Monday through Sunday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m, with last admission at 4.

Rodeo Mexican Restaurant: Flavorful Fare

Drawing upon handed-down, authentic Mexican recipes, Rodeo Mexican Restaurant serves up flavorful and fittingly spicy Mexican fare. With a name like Rodeo, you know you’re guaranteed a good time when you step into the festively decorated interior for lunch or dinner. Rodeo also offers take-out and delivery and even caters events for a unique flare. Locals really rave, though, about Rodeo’s 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Happy Hour. Every day except Fridays, the restaurant offers daily deals such as 99 cent domestic beers on Mondays, cheap and enormous margarita pitchers on Saturdays, and other tequila-soaked specials. Though, truly, the margaritas are big and reasonably priced at any hour of the day. To soak up all the liquor, the menu has an extensive amount of authentic fare such as nachos, burritos, and fajitas. Specialties include seafood quesadilla, Chiles Poblanos, the Quesadilla Mexicana, and Yolandas.
